SAVE SHEILA'S LIFE CAUSE
Note: During my blogs, you will see that I'll be talking about 3 different government medical facilities; their names will be changed to prevent me from being sued, and prevent interference with a possible future court case.
I will be calling them: Local Hospital 1, Clinic 1 and Clinic 2.

With some anxiety, I planned to visit Mom today - Wednesday 24 July 2024.
She was admitted to the surgical ward yesterday, and I’m hoping she’s been treated well, is out of pain, and is receiving the right food for her diabetic condition.Mom seems to have a very fast and high sugar spike when eating any type of carbohydrate; thanks to Dr Nick Holmes from VMRS who coached us on how to use a high protein diet with the right type of veggies and fruit - Moms sugar is now controlled well with a combination of diet and small doses of insulin every second day or so.
Before going on Dr Nicks diet, her sugar was always around 18 to 29. After a few weeks on Dr Nicks diet, for the first time in DECADES Moms sugar hovered between 8 and 10.5.
Wow! What a victory!! Thank you Jesus! 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
I'm sure you understand, therefore, why I was concerned about
exactly what type of food the Government Hospital feeds their diabetic patients!
Read on to see a little late why I had to explain this to you.
Back to yesterday - during the time Mom was being admitted, one of the nurses asked me to purchase a product, a barrier cream called Cavlion, which is important for preventing pressure sores. I found out that it costs between R260 and R350 for a 98g tube!It took almost an hour to get there, only to find that they were out of stock. After that, it took another hour to get to the hospital via mini-taxi to visit Mom. I had 20 minutes left of visiting hour.
When I arrived, Mom looked dehydrated and pale, told me she was still in considerable pain, though it was somewhat controlled.
Mom said she hadn’t eaten at all because they tried to give her white rice for breakfast, which isn’t suitable for her as I mentioned above - being diabetic and sensitive to carbs, eating white rice or white anything would raise her blood sugar levels to ridiculously high levels, which could even prevent her having surgery.
(My hubby later confirmed that when he was in that hospital, they also mainly dished up white rice for patients.)
Mom said they argued with her on and off for for a few hours, insisting she eat the rice - but she resisted the pressure; Mom said she kept telling them over and over again she could not eat that type of food, and they kept loudly ignoring her and insisting she eat it. What a palaver!
I found a nearby SPAR near Oribi Center, and the manager was incredibly kind.
When I explained the situation, he gave me several containers and plastic utensils for free!. I bought cooked chicken and veggies and I was able to prepare some food portion containers for Mom.
Returning to the hospital, I snuck back into her ward after visiting hours and gave her the food, but she didn’t have much of an appetite.
I was also concerned because I know she could not reach for her food, and sometimes she needed to be fed - especially if she was attached to drips or positioned strategically to protect the pressure sores from pressure. I expected the nurses to notice when Mom was not able to feed herself, and to at least attempt to feed her.
I left the containers in Moms cubicle, said goodbye, and told her I’d be in touch. She was already falling asleep as I left.
1 Peter 2:24 NLTHe personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds, you are healed.
